The rumours are true - Mandy and Homer the Freelance Cat are off for two weeks on a European vacation! From September 8th to 22nd, the pair will be far away in London, Amsterdam and Paris, enjoying the autumn weather that they have missed since emigrating from Canada.
Well, not "missed," in the romantic, wistful sense. Just, "not been present for." They wanted me to clear that up.
So how does a holiday play out when you work for yourself, like these two stars of the freelance writing world?
"Exactly how you want it," Homer scoffs. "I've been putting money away for a year now, and the only reason I worked an immense 20 hours a week during that time was to save for an awesome vacation. I'm turning 5 this year. It's time to see Europe."
Mandy agrees. "Holidays are whenever and whatever you want them to be when you work for yourself," she says. "All you have to do is stop pencilling in clients and make your travel arrangements."
The pair are planning a 3-city tour of Europe complete with stops at the Tower of London, the Anne Frank House and "all the fromageries in Paris."
So what can you expect from The Freelancer Society while Homer the Freelance Cat and his best bud are away? Check in on Tuesdays for a new blog from Retta, outlining some innovative ways to keep fit and healthy while working from home. Job listings will still be updated and shared via Twitter and Facebook every Monday through Friday. When the weary travellers return, Society members can also look forward to an in-depth look at freelancing overseas and on the road.
