Friends, humans, cats, perhaps even some dogs - welcome to the chaos that is Pitch Wars! This is my first year joining in, and for those of you who are interested, here's what's up with this awesome competition.
75 successful novelists have each agreed to offer mentoring services to one writer who shows great potential. That mentorship will be gruelling, intensive, and hopefully, responsible for a highly-polished version of the writer's original manuscript that is worthy of an agent or editor's time. Once the hard work is over, the writers will all have a chance to pitch their renewed novels to interested literary agents - and hopefully, embrace a good bottle of champagne. The catch is, each writer can only submit his or her book to 4 mentors.
Sound cool? That's because it is! Brenda Drake is responsible for this enormous event, and so far hundreds - if not thousands - of potential authors are following the #PitchWars tag ceaselessly on Twitter. "Do you like vampires?" they ask. "No? What about elves?"
What does a well-written cat have to lose?
I genuinely believe that my 4 potential mentors will thoroughly enjoy my novel, a take on feline activism throughout the 20th century. I'll get this published, brothers and sisters, and let it be a rally cry for those of you who are not allowed to work! For those of you who do not have access to canned tuna! For those of you shiver in the cold, waiting for a filling meal or soft bed from a comrade! We will overcome, friends. This book shall be a flag to unite us.
I may not be able to sleep this month, but I'm enjoying the process of slowly losing my furry mind.
